
Shwmae Sumae day celebrates the use of the Welsh language in every aspect of everyday life. The intention is to encourage people to start every conversation in Welsh by greeting with Shwmae, Sumae, Ti'n okor or whatever way you choose.
If you are a fluent speaker, learning Welsh or starting your journey with the Welsh language,
it's an opportunity for you to enjoy the language in the lecture room, with friends or in a shop in town.
The first Shwmae Sumae Day was celebrated back in 2013 and now, Menter Iaith, which are local organizations that work hard to promote the Welsh language in our communities, steer the celebrations.
Every year, the university cafes have been offering a free cup of tea to students who start the conversation in Welsh. It is a great opportunity to encourage the use of the Welsh language across all university students - here is a video of the Aber Union community joining in the celebrations by sharing their favorite Welsh words:
