“Rachel is the student voice for sports, societies and volunteering opportunities”

Her role focuses on giving Aber students the best student journey possible and giving them more than just a degree.


About the Role:


The Student Opportunities Officer is responsible for:

  • Representing the student body on matters relating to sports, societies, volunteering and employability.
  • Co-ordinating activity and campaigns relating to sports, societies, volunteering and employability.
  • Informing policy within the University and Students’ Union on matters relating to sports, societies, volunteering and employability.
  • Supporting and developing a network of clubs and societies by chairing the Sports and Societies Zones.
  • Working with the Chief Executive Officer and AberSU’s senior management team to achieve and shape strategic aims and outcomes.
  • Attending appropriate University Committees.
  • Attending regular meetings with relevant University departments to further the development of clubs, societies, volunteering and employability.

Current Priorities:

Below you can find a list of priorities Rachel is working on this year as well as her current progress on them.

Increase engagement with Tîm Aber

  • Organise and promote a society matching system via an online drop-in before freshers
  • Organise and promote a calendar of Give it A Go activities
  • Organise volunteering action days


Develop inclusive clubs and societies

  • Develop and deliver No Excuses workshops to at least 20 clubs and societies
  • Accessibility and Inclusion review is conducted of all clubs and societies


Encourage and promote club and society events

  • Increase the number of club & society events advertised on the SU website
  • Establish a measure for the number of venue/room bookings during the academic year


Lobby the University to develop a medium to long-term strategy for sport at the University. *


Extend access to the Sports Centre gym on weekends. *
