What committee are you part of and what roles have you held?
This is the first year I have been on a committee and I am currently the president of the Geography Society, also known as Geogsoc.
What made you want to run for a committee role?
What made me run for a role on committee was the exciting chance to take the society to a new level as well as the chance to be able to continue the positive direction the society is going in. Additionally, I love interacting with new people and I saw applying for a committee role was perfect for that where I can meet new people within the society, whether internally or externally.
What has been the most enjoyable part of being on committee?
The most enjoyable part of being on committee is 100% seeing everyone enjoy the events we run. Getting great feedback, whether through a social, a walk or a sport event, fills me with immense pride where I know our committee have done a great job and pulled off a fantastic event.
Can you tell us about a time where your role was challenging?
There have been very few times where the role has been challenging. On a personal level, the main challenge I have had is remembering everyone’s names. We have just under 100 members so it has definitely taken me a while to remember them, but I am definitely getting there!!!
Do you feel that being on a committee has been beneficial in terms of preparing you for the future?
I feel being on committee has definitely helped build many aspects in preparation for future life. It grows your confidence on a personal level and really helps if you have troubles speaking to new people!! It builds life skills that really can help you as an individual!!!
What piece of advice would you give to an incoming committee member?
My advice would be if you feel nervous about running for a role, do it. You will regret every moment of it if you do not run. As well as enjoy every single minute of it. It will go incredibly quick and you will cherish these moments for ever!
