ABERYSTWYTH DEPARTMENTAL PEER GUIDES 2022/23
 

Join with a large team of student guides to help out new first year students:

• Get specific training in active listening and signposting to support services within AU.
• Gain and improve valuable skills and attributes for your CV.
• Use your university experiences to help others.
• Get your hours accredited by the Aber Award.
• A chance to win the Mentor of the Year Award.
• Be a friendly and relatable first point of contact for new students.
• Have the opportunity to make a difference whether it is big or small.                                                                                                                                                                                       

WE RECRUIT YEARLY LINKING TO SPECIFIC PEER GUIDES IN EACH ACADEMIC DEPARTMENT

What is involved?

• Undertake online training prior to assignment of new students.
• Send initial opening emails to make contact.
• Meet with new students as required (we suggest 2-3 meetings per term per mentee).
• Be there to answer questions via email.
• Help students to orientate and find everything AU has to offer them.
• Be there for problems which don’t require personal tutors or student support.

• Good communication skills
• Good knowledge of AU facilities
• Good listening skills
• Organised and reliable
• Welsh language (desirable not essential)
• Enthusiasm for helping others
