The Asian Society also known as A SOC celebrates countries in the south of Asia.
Who is welcome here?
Anyone with any interest in asian culture is welcome to join ASOC. Experience new foods and music as well as learning about the variety of faiths and heritages that south asian countries have to offer. It also gives people with south asian heritage a chance to join a new family and support each other while away from home. We learn about the culture and heritage of countries such as India, Pakistan, Mauritius, Bangladesh, Iran, Malaysia, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Maldives and Sri Lanka to name some.
What events do we have planned?
We have events planned every week. These are normally themed dress up such as the name social, muder mystery social and anything but a cup social. We also hold more planned events in a hall with a DJ such as welcome night, halloween social and valentines social. Twice a year we also hold an event with formal attire complete with dinner and society awards. Additionally we have events where asian attire is encouraged such as bollywood night and bhangra night. ASOC is also working on events connecting Aberystwyth Asian Society with other Asian Societies around the country as well as an end of year ASOC trip.
We also have non alcoholic socials often as well such as food socials, games night, sports days, movie nights and quiz nights. We plan to celebrate independence days and republic days for each south asian country where we share food, listen to the country's music and learn new traditions.
There's something for everyone here at ASOC whatever the interest or faith!
By buying our membership you gain access to prize draws at events and discounted tickets for all events hosted by us as well as other discounts with cafes around aberystwyth.
