This week is “Undeb Aber Celebrates week” - THE perfect opportunity to celebrate all things related to Aber students and we will be celebrating these one Undeb Aberystwyth promise at a time.
(not aware of Undeb Aberystwyth’s promises to students – have a look here).
We know that life has its ups and downs and we want to be there with you through thick and thin.
Today we take a look back at some ways we have “supported students to be happy and healthy” this last academic year:
- Our advice service has directly supported over 300 student cases so far this academic year.
- 156 students attended our Cariad Pet Therapy event in January as part of our de-stress activities giving them doggy cwtsh time. This was enabled by some fab student volunteers who ensured everything ran smoothly on the day. Our doggy friends will be returning in May for exam de-stress.
- Our advice service will be providing 250+ free breakfasts for students, as well as 100 free sausage roll vouchers, and having free fruit available in the Undeb.
- We have developed our Wellbeing Station to be more visible and hold more products including different types of Condoms, STI testing kits and pregnancy tests.
- The Undeb has been working with local organisation Project LUNA on a safer venue scheme making sure places in town are supportive of trans rights and inclusion practices, making it a safe space for all. More than 6 venues have already been trained with others booked on.
- Our advice service has given out 11,000 condoms so far this year and 3,000 sachets of lube. We have also provided 528 pregnancy tests, and 250 STI testing kits. And introduced oral dams which we have given out 71 to date.
- Our officer team gave out 200 Exam de-stress bags with a variety of freebies to support our students during exam season.
- Our advice service provided over 300 free meals for students as part of student money week, including breakfasts, fresh fruit, a leek & potato soup cook-along and free sausage rolls. As well as having free fruit available in the Undeb.
- We provided a wide selection of free essential items for student money week supporting 193 students this year.
- We have advised, supported and provided students with 288 free reusable period products so far this year.
- Our A-Teamers provided a welcoming arrival to new students and their families & friends, and support throughout the night alongside St Johns Ambulance and DDAS. Overall, they provided almost 840 hours of volunteering during the welcome period.
- Our team of Officers and Staff have been busy championing the rights of students by coordinating and supporting a range of wellbeing campaigns and projects this year including our beyond the binary campaign and the New Narratives drug and alcohol project.
