It’s already been a couple of months since our new Full Time Officer Team took the helm, and we’re really excited to see their plans coming together before Freshers’ week kicks off the year later this month.

The full time officer team is supported by a range of staff who work closely with students, university staff, other unions and the National Union of Students to make sure that each year, AberSU provides consistent services and works toward our strategic aims.

There’s been a number of changes to our staff team over the past year, so we thought it would be a great time to let you know about some of the changes, and hopefully give you an idea of who’s working behind the scenes.


Communications and Marketing

Huge congratulations to our Communications and Engagement Manager Eleri Wyn for the new addition to the family. Eleri will be returning in March following her maternity leave.

Until then, the CEO Trish McGrath will be acting manager for the department, and our current Student Voice Coordinator, Chris Parry will be taking on the role of Communications Coordinator.


Student Support and Representation

A very warm welcome to Steph East! Steph will be covering the role of Student Voice Coordinator until March when Eleri and Chris will return to their roles. She joins us from Aberystwyth University planning office, where her work with Your Voice Matters and Tell us Now has prepared her well for making sure student voices are at the forefront of our work.

Student Opportunities

Welcome back Lucie! Our Sports Coordinator is returning soon from maternity leave and is looking forward to catching up with all our clubs.

A very fond farewell to Sion Betts! After years of organising, supporting and growing Team Aber Societies, Sion has left the SU to work in emergency services. We wish him all the best!

Our new Societies Coordinator is our very own Becca Thompson. Previously the Finance Assistant, we wish Becca all the best in her new role.

Finance and Reception

It won’t be long until we have to say goodbye to the amazing Katie Searle. Having been the friendly face of reception for over 2 years, we wish her all the best once she leaves at the end of September and wish her all the best for the future.

The Finance Assistant and Reception roles will be merging this year so keep an eye out for a new staff member joining soon!
