Our last article of Student Volunteer Week is about Aberystwyth Mountain Bike Club. The committee volunteer their time to get their members to trails and events across the country. In addition, members and the committee volunteer their time to marshal at events and build up relationships in the biking community. Find out more about their volunteering journey so far...
What do you do as a Club?
We run weekly mountain bike rides at various locations both local to Aberystwyth as well as throughout Wales. We also have weekly socials to blow off steam. We volunteer some of our time to help marshal at mountain bike events, held by our title sponsor Summit Cycles in Aber.
Why do you volunteer?
It's a good way to introduce our members to the guys in the local bike shop, and by volunteering at mountain bike events, we are able to boost our connections with riders in the local area.
What’s you biggest feel good moment as volunteers?
Just being able to play a part in putting on successful events, and seeing how much people enjoy the events. Being closely involved with high profile MTB riders in the local community is also a great opportunity.
What benefits have you gained from volunteering?
It’s boosted our connections with the local riding community and we also get discounts from Summit Cycles. When we marshal at events, the club really comes together and we make a good time of it.
