Role: Faculty Officer
Department: Student Voice / Your Academic Department 
Commitment/Duration: Elected position for up to one academic year. 6-10 hours per month, term time only.
Previous experience required: Absolutely none; all training will be provided.

 

Purpose of role

Faculty Officer are students who collect feedback and speak on behalf of other students to help make your University education and experience the best it can be!

Faculty Officer are elected to their role by students in their faculty. This means they have been chosen as the best person  from within their faculty to feedback the views of those they represent to their faculty, the University, and Students’ Union.

 

Responsibilities

  • Attend training sessions held by the Students’ Union.
  • Gather feedback about the experiences of students in your faculty and relay these by meeting regularly with key staff.
  • Attend the Academic Zone, University Committees and Meetings as appropriate to present feedback to fellow reps and staff.
  • Report back on the outcomes of feedback to students in your faculty and the Students’ Union.
  • Lead activities and campaigns where appropriate to improve the student experience.
  • Refer students to an appropriate staff member, officer or service where they cannot deal with an issue themselves, or the issue is not course related.

As a Faculty Officer, you will be able to develop new and existing skills, enhance your employability and join a community of like-minded students within your faculty who positively contribute towards shaping the student experience.

You can gain recognition for your volunteer hours and skills by working towards the Aber Award; and you will have the chance to be nominated for ‘Volunteer Officer of the Year’ as part of the Staff and Student Awards.
