I can’t believe that my year as Academic Affairs Officer is coming to an end, time truly does fly by. These last few months have been incredible, filled with amazing experiences and continuous personal growth. I am grateful for everyone who has made this year so wonderful, especially my fellow officers: Ffion, Tanaka, Nanw and Millie. I am so lucky to have had the opportunity to work alongside such an amazing team.
I am incredibly proud of all we have done this year. From successful campaigns, to amazing events, it surely has been an eventful ride. It would be impossible to summarise the entire year in just a few paragraphs, so I will focus on some of the highlights:
Resit fees and Reassessment Caps: After much collaborative work with the University, I can finally say there are exciting things in development regarding the removal of resit fees and reassessment caps. This has been my main Officer priority, as I know how much of a difference their removal would make on students’ lives. I cannot disclose much of what is coming, but keep an eye out for any comms in the next few months!
Hidden Costs Campaign: For the last few months I have had the pleasure of being part of the Hidden Costs Campaign group. After a meeting we had with the Academic Pro Vicechancellor of Education and Student Experience, the University has committed to publishing online all the up-to-date additional costs associated with Aberystwyth Programmes. This is a huge win, as students now will know about any costs before their courses start, allowing them to plan accordingly.
Beyond the binary: The Beyond the binary campaign has been an active policy for three years. The policy was due to lapse this year, but due to its impact the Undeb has decided to continue it as a core wellbeing service to students. The amazing impact this service has cannot go understated.
TLSE Awards: The TLSE Celebrates Awards were a success. It was a lovely evening of recognising exemplary work from staff and students. Thank you to everyone that came and for making Aber the incredible community that we know and love.
I want to finalise by saying thank you to everyone who made this year as amazing as it was. I am very grateful that I got the amazing opportunity to be your Academic Affairs Officer. I will always remember my time in the role with a smile.
