The Department of Computer Science has been selected as the next partner in Undeb Aberystwyth’s Academic Communities project, following a competitive application process involving five departments.
Building on the success of the Students’ Union's partnership with the Department of Theatre, Film and Television Studies (TFTS), which will continue this year, the new collaboration will focus on strengthening student voice, belonging, and community within Computer Science.
As part of the project, Undeb Aberystwyth will employ a Computer Science student to work within the department, supporting student voice activity, co-creation projects, employability initiatives, and engagement. The department will also pilot Unitu, a student feedback platform designed to help departments respond to student concerns and close the feedback loop more effectively.

“It is essential for students to feel well-supported and part of a thriving academic community to fully benefit from their time at the university. Therefore, we are excited to work with the Computer Science Department to strengthen its community of staff and students, deepen student engagement, and enhance student voice”.
Professor Thomas Jansen, Head of the Department of Computer Science, said:
“The Academic Communities project is an exciting opportunity to build student belonging and expand how we hear the student voice. The Undeb Aber student staff member will be key and we look forward to working with them and using the Unitu platform to enhance our learning community”.
The partnership represents an exciting opportunity to build on the positive outcomes already seen in TFTS and further develop how students shape their academic experience at Aberystwyth University.
