What committee are you part of and what roles have you held?

I am part of the Geography Societies committee, and the role I have held since June 2022 is Vice President.

What made you want to run for a committee role?

Throughout my second year at Aberystwyth I really enjoyed involving myself with the Geogsoc, the socials were the highlight of my week, the people that I integrated with that were also part of the society made up a group of friends that I was so grateful for. It was during our superteams Mens celebrations last year when I thought that I really want to continue to be part of this amazing society and I really wanted to help others get the same experience if not a better one than I did, so I decided to run for Vice president in the committee elections.

What has been the most enjoyable part of being on committee?

The best part about being on the committee is without a doubt getting to be involved in the weekly socials as a chance to interact with all members of the society. Planning exciting events such as our Christmas and summer meals have also been a personal highlight.

Can you tell us about a time where your role was challenging?

As vice president it was my responsibility to take a leading role in the planning of our end of year meals. The planning and delivering of the Christmas meal for the society remains my greatest challenge as vice president so far. As well as my course assignments and dissertation project I had to ensure that the date was booked, and everything was signed off and paid for properly. This was also paired with the smooth running of the event itself where over 60 members of the society enjoyed a meal, a quiz, and some awards.

Do you feel that being on a committee has been beneficial in terms of preparing you for the future?

Without a doubt, I feel like the experience of being vice president has enabled me to develop my confidence in social situations, as well as my own self confidence for being able to take a leading role in planning and organizing society events. I know for sure that I will take these skills into my post university life.

What piece of advice would you give to an incoming committee member?

To anybody that is going to step up next year not just for a vice president role but for any committee role, I would encourage you to salvage every moment. It is a special privilege to be on a societies committee as the member of that society chose you to be in that role. Enjoy yourself, challenge yourself, be ambitious! You will not regret doing so, believe me, you will only get an opportunity such as this once!
