MEET THE SU TEAM
Over the Summer, it’s time for us as a Students’ Union to reflect on the year that’s just been, prepare to welcome new and current students to Aber in September and put plans in place for a full events and activity programme for 2020-2021.
The summer months are also a time to welcome and train new officer teams in readiness for the year ahead. Supporting the officer team are a family of SU staff working behind the scenes to ensure Aberystwyth students have the opportunity to love student life and be ready for anything.
We would love to take the opportunity over the next few months to introduce our AberSU family – who are all here for you if you need help, advice or a chat.
Spotlight on Amy Goodwin – Academic and Volunteering Coordinator
Where is home?
Aberystwyth, but I’m originally from the Midlands
Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I’m an Aber Graduate, but I did leave for 5 years before coming back! It has to be a bad day if you don’t see me smiling! Most the time I’m a cheerful person, enjoying my job and my pastimes outside of work.
It’s your last meal on earth… what’s on the menu?
Takeaway Fish and Chips
Outside of work, what are your favourite pastimes or hobbies?
Swimming, Parkrun, yoga and mountain walking - anything outdoors and I’m happy! I also volunteer for Surfers Against Sewage to run beach cleans in the local community.
What do you love about working in Aberystwyth?
That I can see the sea every day!
If you weren’t in your SU role… what would you be?
I’d love to be a Marine Biologist living in a tropical paradise
What part(s) of your job do you enjoy the most?
Co-ordinating and working alongside the A-Team Volunteers over Fresher’s, as well as organising volunteering opportunities that bring together students and organisations to benefit the community, environment or a particular cause.
Before working here, have you had much involvement with the students’ union or student groups?
I used to work at Lancaster Students’ Union as a Schools Volunteer Coordinator, and when I was at Uni I was President of the Under Water Hockey Team.
AberSU is…caring, committed, collaborative and a really enjoyable place to work!
AberSU is not…a bar!
Summer isn’t ‘quiet time’ for Students’ Unions… what are you going to be busy working on over the Summer?
A-Team preparation for Fresher’s, SU Handbook for volunteers, Academic Representative Training and events, as well as Academic Rep election promotion ready for online standing in September.
