This year Aberystwyth University students have raised and given over £8600 pounds for charities including Mind and Guide Dogs Cymru.
Aberystwyth University Students’ Union RAG (Raise and Give) is a single fund which is raised largely by sports clubs, societies and volunteering groups but in which all students can be involved with. Fundraising which is completely student-led allows Aberystwyth students to come together to support local and national causes.
This year monies raised have also been divided into a Community Fund which allows local charities across Mid-Wales to bid for funds in the form of grants to support their work. Applications for the Community Fund are now open until 20th September 2019 at www.abersu.co.uk/communityfund with the outcome of grants decided by a student panel.
UMCA (Undeb Myfyrwyr Cymraeg Aberystwyth) Abersytwyth’s Welsh Language Union has also been active raising £2,683 for St John’s Cymru and the Wales Air Ambulance Service.
Wojtek Salski, AberSU Opportunities Officer said: “It’s amazing to see how much of an impact the Aberystwyth student community can have. Each year our students make a conscious choice to give time and money to various causes without asking for anything in exchange. This act of giving is proof of our students’ empathy and generosity to others.”
