🥾⛰️ Diffwys (En)
(CYMRAEG)
- Overview -
For our first mountain of 2025, we’ll be heading to Diffwys. The route offers a lot of variety, including both deciduous and coniferous woodland, waterfalls, rolling hills, and a unique section walking along a raised stone path. From the top, you have great views to the south, including the Mawddach Estuary and the Cadair Idris range.

- Description -
We will be meeting in town at 7:20AM and catching the 7:35 bus to Pen-y-bryn, a village north-west of Dolgellau. We’ll then start the hike by heading north into the forest. Towards the end of the forest, we’ll turn west and follow a raised stone path out of the forest and out to the base of the mountain. The ascent to the top from here is fairly steep, but grassy and forgiving. After we summit, we’ll head along the gentle ridge for a couple of kilometres, before heading south-east back into the forest, and ending at the village of Bontddu. Please note that there are no toilets at the start, middle, or finish, but there is plenty of forest.
The hike will be around 15.5km, and the total ascent will be around 859m.
- Meetings, Timings, and Transport -
We will be traveling by bus. We’ll meet at bus station stop 4 at 07:20.
We will depart Aberystwyth at 07:35, and we should be back around 18:30 at the latest.
