Samaritans Peer support : Compassionate Listening Training
Do you wish to know how to be there for someone needing support, whatever it is, on their own terms? We all need a kind listening ear every now and then, to talk through something which may be distressing. Sometimes talking to someone who isn’t directly involved is the best. Particularly during these strange times, it’s essential we support each other. Samaritans in Aberystwyth are offering a training session in Peer Support – Compassionate Listening. Samaritans has provided a listening service to people in distress and despair for over 60 years. Successful partnerships with Network Rail, the Prison Service and many organisations, led us to train thousands in how to talk to people in distress with a proven model. The training, scheduled to take place on Thursday 28th of October 2021 at 1pm, will run for 3 hours and will be a fun mixture of practical skills and group work. The learned skills give you the confidence to support someone, even a stranger. They can also be used to improve relationships at work, with friends or at home.
The session will show you how to:
- Provide an impartial & non-judgemental safe space, helping the person explore what’s going on and, if appropriate, what the options are.
- Help them find their own way rather than providing advice or answers.
- Convey empathy, so they feel someone understands what it’s like to be in their shoes. To book a place simply click the link below.
We look forward to seeing you there!
