Community Sighted Guide Training

A Community Sighted Guide is a member of the General Public who has been trained to safely offer assistance to a person who is blind or visually impaired whilst they are out and about in their normal daily lives or as part of their job.

Sighted Guiding is a recognised technique developed by Guide Dogs and RNIB as a way of helping people who are living with sight loss to get around safely.

The course is free and requires no time commitment beyond the course, however you may want to progress to the next level to become a My Guide Volunteer.

After introductions there will be an opportunity for the participants to experience what it is like to live with various types of sight loss. They will then be taught how to communicate with and safely guide someone who is visually impaired. This includes accessing doorways, going up and down stairs and how to get in and out of a car etc. This element of the course involves blindfold practicals and therefore requires sensible footwear to be worn.

Places are limited to 12 people per session.
