International Women’s Day

International Women's Day, celebrated annually on March 8th, is a global event honouring the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It also serves to raise awareness about gender inequality and advocate for women's rights and gender parity. The day is marked by events, campaigns, and activities worldwide, aiming to inspire and empower women, recognize their contributions, and promote efforts towards achieving gender equality.

2025

For International Women’s Day this year, the Students’ Union hosted a special tea party to celebrate women coming together. The event featured poetry from our Women's Student Officer, Livvy.

The Wellbeing Officer, Mo, and the Campaigns and Democracy Coordinator, Ash, attended the Visibility Awards organised by Aberystwyth University to celebrate the contributions of women to research and excellence across the university.

“It was so lovely to attend the visibility awards and hear about all the work that has been happening. The event was inclusive and had a real positive feel. It was very empowering to hear from, read about and be able to chat to some really empowering people!” - Mo (Wellbeing Officer 2024-2025)

"The International Women's Day Tea Party is a really special space dedicated to bringing women together on a day that celebrates women without division. I always enjoy sitting and chatting to other women, and just having that space for us to come together and be us without fear is really wonderful. This year, we had some of our Undeb Leadership Team speak, and I talked about my story fighting for equal pay at another workplace. Overall, it was really lovely."

- Tiff (Opportunities Officer 2023-2025)

2024

We’ve used International Women's Day 2024 to highlight an incredible display of Welsh Women’s power by hosting a talk with Siân Howys and Mererid Hopwood to spread the world about the Welsh Women's Petition for Peace! We should be very proud of this international story where 390,000 women rallied for peace and took it across to the US to campaign for a warless world.

2023

Undeb Aberystwyth Held a stall at the Bandstand for 2023 International Women’s Day. This stall had information about campaigns we were running as well as shining a light on the amazing women who work in Undeb Aberystwyth. We also showcased some of the banners students had made for Reclaim the Night marches from previous years.

During the day there was also an International Women’s Day tea party. We celebrated women’s achievements with cakes and tea and heard a feminist poem from Clare Foley and the amazing journey of our incredible CEO Trish McGrath.
