Aberystwyth Conservation Volunteers get active in the countryside every Saturday during term!

Previous experience is not necessary, everyone is welcome!

Our weekends we visit various local nature reserves and undertake different activities such as coppicing, scrub clearance, step building and many more. We work with a wide range of organisations including the National Trust, RSPB, Denmark Farm Conservation Centre, Magic of Life Butterfly House, Parc Natur Penglais and the local County Council. Tasks are a great way to explore the Aberystwyth area and gain practical conservation experience. If you're feeling a bit stuck in Aberystwyth our tasks offer a great way to spend a day away from town.

In addition to our weekend trips, we hold weekly Wednesday afternoon activities (if you can't spare a whole day in the outdoors!), ranging from local gardening at the Penglais community garden (behind the Student's Union building), local beach cleans in town and practical conservation activities in Penglais woods.

The group searching for rare plants at Stanner Rocks NNR - 2019/20 Fun Fact - This is the only place the Radnor Lily (Gagea bohemica) grows in Britain!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's a fun way to get to know fellow Conservationists and a great to way to make a difference in the local environment and gain valuable work experience. It is especially great for gaining valuable practical conservation skills during your time at University (Essential for getting into a conservation career!).

During the week we hold socials every Monday night with themes such as movie/game nights and casual meet-ups at pubs! (Due to the current lockdown situation, we are stopping all pub/ town socials until it is safe to continue them. We as a committee will be reviewing the situation and update our plan in the new term).
