4pm – 7pm: Climate Justice Gathering (Aberystwyth Students’ Union, Main Hall)

  • Drumming (Rhythms of Resistance): get a feel for the electric and empowering atmosphere drumming with Machynlleth’s Samba Dyfi group!
  • Nonviolent Direct Action (NVDA: peaceful resistance to injustice). NVDA describes protest techniques which go beyond institutionalised conflict procedures (e.g., petitioning and voting). How can NVDA help when more obvious routes of protest seem to fail us? How to start getting an overview of legal issues when peaceful protest is increasingly criminalised (see PCSC Bill of April 2022)?
  • Focus and action planning session: an opportunity to stick our heads together in small groups to inspire plans for actions. Which sector of society do you want to target? Using which strategies?

There will also be printing blocks for your clothes, banners, flags, as well as other craft materials for the creative rebels among us.

8pm ‘til late: Community Fundraising Gig with Reckless Breakfast, a.k.a., NOT Deborah Meaden’s Seventh Favourite West Wales Based Ska-Punk Band, at Y Cwps (The Coopers Arms), Aberystwyth. Tickets will be £‎5 and profits will be split between supporting the band and supporting Extinction Rebellion Cymru. These funds have done and continue to do a great deal to support direct action in Wales, giving a voice to ordinary people. If you would like to know more about the kinds of actions these funds will be used for, feel free to reach out by email.

If you would like to contribute or use the afternoon gathering as a platform for your group/organisation’s activities, please let us know via email what you would like to do and we will make sure to provide space and any needed materials.
