Welcome to Aberystwyth’s only Sailing Club!
Join us in getting out on the open water and making another year’s worth of memories!
We warmly welcome both sailors and non-sailors of all abilities. You have access to our fleet of Fireflies and Laser 2 dinghies, as well as our selection of wetsuits and buoyancy aids to keep you safe at sea.
If you aren’t into the physical aspect of sailing, not to worry! We host many other events throughout the year, such as bonfires and barbecues on South Beach, aside from our (arguably the best) weekly Wednesday night socials!
Reasons to Join Us
- AUSC are inclusive and down-to-earth
- You don’t need to own a boat or have ever sailed to join us
- Bi-annual sailing trips to the beautiful Bala lake in Sowdonia National Park (first photo)
- Chance to compete in team racing events across the nation - most notably Varsity, against Bangor University, and the Swansea Spartan (you won't want to miss that one!)
- Progression: we can help with internationally recognised RYA qualifications and help you to learn about the sport that we love
Our Sailing Membership costs are listed above - we pride ourselves on our affordability and accessibility for anyone and everyone who wishes to join us.
We pride ourselves on being one of the most, if not the most affordable university sailing club in the UK.
Sailing Membership will give you access to our fleet of boats, as well as our equipment, and a place on our club trips.
Our Associate Membership will give you access to our trips and events that don't concern actual sailing (e.g. petrol cost and a bbq/food covered for our day trips).
We sail most weekends (weather providing of course). (What To Bring To A Sailing Session)
Our socials tend to start at Rummers from 8:30pm each wednesday, however weekly updates will be on our facebook page. We also hold sailing in theory sessions on a Thursday so you can meet us in a more casual setting and learn about who we are and all things sailing.
If you see one of us in our AUSC club kit then feel free to stop us if you have any queries!
Our bi-annual trip to Bala Lake in Snowdonia National Park is definitely not one to miss! Picture camping next to the best (and the biggest) lake in Wales, evenings (and early mornings) spent in a cosy pub, barbeques on the lake-front and lots of sailing! It's the perfect opportunity to get to know everyone better and really try your hand at sailing.
We compete in a variety of competitions across the UK such as Varsity against our main rivals, Bangor University. Each year we also participate in the Swansea Spartan, a team racing event that allows us to meet other university sailing clubs and spend a weekend sailing and socialising.
Extra Things to Interest You
Even if you have no desire to actually sail, you’re more than welcome to come along to our socials, BBQs, movie nights, and any of the other exciting activities we have planned for this year. You are always welcome.
This year we are participating in The Green Blue University Sailing Sustainability Challenge 2020/21, a competition amongst university sailing clubs to encourage us to take action to make our sport more environmentally sustainable and friendly. We will be engaging with the theme of sustainability over on our social media accounts and we urge you to consider how you can make your everyday more sustainable. As a club, we are putting sustainability and the way in which we treat our environment at the heart of our operation, from our mission to avoid single-use plastic where possible, to ensuring we leave the most minimal impact on our environment as possible through our sport and lifestyle.

AUSC are dedicated to the inclusion and acceptance of all members regardless of age, race, ethnicity, ability, culture or nationality, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, religious affiliation, socioeconomic status and marital status.
If you have any questions about the club feel free to email our Commodore Andrew Mitchell at email@example.com or our Vice-Commodore Lucia Paone-Michael firstname.lastname@example.org.
We understand that joining a society can be daunting, especially when you don't know anyone, however you'll fit right in and feel like one of the team in no time at all :)
