Who are we?
Aberystwyth University Hiking Club organises a hike every weekend, usually on Sundays. Our hikes are a great way to explore the natural landscapes of Wales on foot, getting fit, meeting new people and learning about hiking skills and the environment. They're fantastic days out and loads of fun, whatever the weather!
Typically we would run a couple of weekends away and holidays every year, to spend a few days hiking in some of our favourite locations in the UK and beyond, but these plans have been put on hold for now due to coronavirus. In normal times, we'd run socials starting from Scholars every Thursday night, for fun but relaxed nights out, with a different theme each week. Due to the pandemic we won't be going in pubs, but we will be running outdoor socials in the spectacular scenery around Aberystwyth where you can bring your own drinks if you want, and online socials with game nights.
If you love the outdoors, want to stay healthy, and meet new people, we're for you. AberHike is among the most active outdoor sports clubs in Aberystwyth, with weekly trips to the mountains, moorlands and more, as well as (in normal times) longer residential tours throughout the year. We welcome all abilities and fitness levels, from experienced hikers to people who have never set foot in the mountains. All our leaders have Mountain Leader Training and hold Emergency First Aid qualifications, so you may enjoy yourselves without having to worry. We attract members of all ages and nationalities. AberHike is particularly popular among International Exchange students as hiking is a great way to get out of Aberystwyth and see the spectacular and unique countryside of Wales and the UK.
