September 2013 saw timetables replete with Wednesday afternoons lectures and we all know this causes problems! It has been a long standing agreement since the reign of Samantha Lumb (if you don’t know who Samantha Lumb is, let’s just say one of the best union sabbatical officers to roam the grounds of Aberystwyth University) that the Wednesday afternoon timetable should be kept free for personal development.

After picking out the problematic modules/departments (thank you for those who gave feedback), meeting with John Grattan (Pro-Vice Chancellor, Student Experience) and reaffirming our stance on Wednesday afternoons with a strong worded letter to the University Executive, I found myself slightly in limbo with nothing in black and white to argue that this was an agreement!

I originally thought we had a Wednesday win when timetables where published this semester as it appeared the Wednesday afternoon timetables were cleared of all classes. However, yet again, the finalised timetable demonstrates barriers. Wednesday afternoon lectures are restricting students’ personal development (not to mention the Wednesday morning lectures).

Sign the petition, (because 10,000 voices are better than one) if you agree that Aberystwyth University should demonstrate their commitment to freeing up the Wednesday afternoon timetable and work towards a Wednesday free of lectures by signing our proposed pledge.
