This term, Aberystwyth has seen 25 teams across 14 different sports compete in the first BUCS season since Covid-19 hit back at the beginning of 2020.

It is fair to say that with a whooping 36 wins across our teams so far, there is nothing stopping them from brining it all back for Aber.

We took a further look into our three highest performing teams so far are:

Netball Women’s 1 – this team are flying ahead this season, winning 7 out of their 7 matches so far! We asked the team’s captain to tell us a little more about how their season has been going for them and how they are feeling about this fantastic achievement:

“I feel honoured to have been able to coach such an amazing group of girls this year. We have a huge amount of talent on the court and have really bonded as a team which I think has been a great aid to our success. I am really excited to see how we progress through the rest of the season!” – Belle Walker (Women’s Netball 1st Team Captain)

Hockey Women’s 1 – this team are also yet to lose a match against their oppositions, with a whooping 4 out of 4 wins in their pocket. Here’s what the captain had to say to their winning streak so far:

“AUWHC have gone into this season with determination and it has clearly paid off with wins in all our BUCS games, some wins by 14-0. With a year out of hockey the girls have worked twice as hard at training and gone into all games with a positive attitude.
I am immensely proud of my girls and their season so far and I look forward to what the second semester will bring!”
Becca Gibson (Women’s Hockey 1st Team Captain)

Badminton Men’s 1 – after only losing 1 of their 5 matches this season, the Men’s badminton 1 team are well on their way to finishing on top this season! We caught up with the captain to find out more:

“We have had a great season this year and some great results, with all players on the team performing extremely well. Many members of the team are yet to lose a game, with the team being confirmed finishing 1st in the league despite having 1 match remaining.”  - Jude Barbour (Men’s Badminton 1st Team Captain)

We look forward to seeing how all of our teams do in term 2 and wish everyone the best of luck!
