This year the Students’ Union once again opened up suggestions for its Raising and Giving (RAG) Charity of the Year in the weeks leading up to Freshers'.

We received a number of suggestions with the most popular put to vote during Orientation Week between Monday 24th and Friday 28th September.

The final shortlist included the National Eisteddfod of Wales, World Wildlife Fund, Guide Dogs Cymru and Bowel Cancer UK. After a week of voting, students chose the World Wildlife Fund to be Charity of the Year.

Wojtek Salski, Opportunities Officer said:

”We know many Aberystwyth University students care dearly about the need to protect wildlife and the planet. With issues such as deforestation, extinction and climate change becoming global crises, we look forward to trying to beat last year’s total.”

AberSU RAG is split equally between two pots, a Charity of the Year and Community Fund which is distributed to local charities in Mid-Wales by the form of grants.

Sports Teams and Societies are still able to support charities of their choice through specific events and fundraising activities.
