Supporting the officer team are a family of SU staff working behind the scenes to ensure Aberystwyth students have the opportunity to love student life and be ready for anything.
We’re delighted to have welcomed three new faces to the AberSU staff team since the beginning of the new academic year.
We caught up with all three to ask a couple of questions to get to know them a little better…
First up is Alice, who joined us as the new Campaigns and Democracy coordinator at the start of the new academic year.
Alice is part of the Support & Representation team here at the SU and parts of her role include the planning and delivery of SU Elections, campaigns and democratic processes.
Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I graduated from Warwick in June with a degree in history, but my love for collective power has existed ever since I joined my first reclaim the night march.
Where is home?
I grew up around Cambridge, lived in Leamington Spa at university and now I’m in the process of making my Aber attic flat home.
It’s your last meal on earth…what’s on the menu?
Vegan Pad Thai or anything with palm oil free peanut butter
Outside of work, what are your favourite pastimes or hobbies?
Outdoor swimming, listening to political podcasts, cycling, watching any and all theatre and of course beloved Parkrun whenever that returns!
What are you hoping to get up to during your first few months?
Enjoying everything there is about living by the sea and generally exploring Wales more
If you weren’t in your SU role…what would you be?
Working in a campaigns role for a small charity or possibly a barrister in another life
Before working here, have you had much involvement with the students’ union or student groups?
At university I didn’t have huge involvement with the SU but I was heavily engaged with activist work promoting gender and climate equality. I’m also an Ambassador for the Women’s Environmental Network delivering workshops on plastic free periods to student groups.
