Today the University have announced (link) that Professor Elizabeth Treasure has been successfully appointed as the new Vice Chancellor for Aberystwyth University.
Professor Treasure is currently Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Cardiff University, and has a BDS in Dental Surgery and a PhD from the University of Birmingham. She has held several senior positions in her career, from Senior Lecturer to Dean & General Manager of the Dental School and Hospital in Cardiff, as well as her current role.
The Students’ Union, whilst not holding a position on the Selection Committee for Vice-Chancellor, were directly involved in the process to recruit Professor Treasure into her role, and hosted a focus group and scenario for each candidate on the day before their interview, and provided feedback to the Selection Committee on our discussions.
On behalf of AberSU, I am delighted to welcome Professor Treasure to Aberystwyth University and to the role of Vice-Chancellor, where I am confident that she will drive Aberystwyth forward to a successful future, and have a close working relationship with AberSU officers and staff in putting students at the heart of Aberystwyth. Professor Treasure will assume the position of Vice-Chancellor officially in April.
I would especially like to thank Professor John Grattan for his incredible work and dedication to the role of Acting Vice-Chancellor over the past 10 months, and for working so closely with the Students’ Union in that time to ensure that students are partners in their education at Aberystwyth, and I am confident that this will continue whilst he is still in post.
Lauren
