MEET THE SU TEAM

Over the Summer, it’s time for us as a Students’ Union to reflect on the year that’s just been, prepare to welcome new and current students to Aber in September and put plans in place for a full events and activity programme for 2020-2021.

The summer months are also a time to welcome and train new officer teams in readiness for the year ahead. Supporting the officer team are a family of SU staff working behind the scenes to ensure Aberystwyth students have the opportunity to love student life and be ready for anything.

We would love to take the opportunity over the next few months to introduce our AberSU family – who are all here for you if you need help, advice or a chat.

Spotlight on Lucie Gwilt – Student Opportunities Manager

Where is home?

I live in Aberystwyth, but I grew up in the Welshpool area.

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

Generally a very positive person who is extremely passionate about sport… Interesting fact: I’m both an Aber AND a Bangor graduate (controversial when it comes to Varsity!)

It’s your last meal on earth…what’s on the menu?

Definitely a chicken tikka Madras from Light of Asia

Outside of work, what are your favourite pastimes or hobbies?

Spending time with my 2 year old daughter Libby, walking my crazy Springer Spaniel Cooper, and playing football for Aberystwyth Town Ladies

What do you love about working in Aberystwyth?

I love the relaxed atmosphere in this town; it’s great for your wellbeing, especially after a busy day in work.

If you weren’t in your SU role…what would you be?

I’m a qualified teacher, so probably would have gone back to Primary School teaching

What part(s) of your job do you enjoy the most?

I love organising the Opportunities Events – lots of hard work involved but always great to see it pay off, and to see students enjoying themselves!

Before working here, have you had much involvement with the students’ union or student groups?

I am Aber Alumni (graduated 2012) and during my time in Aber I was President and Women’s Captain of the Badminton Club, so I was relatively engaged with the SU through my committee role.

AberSU is… a place where students’ can help to shape their University, but more importantly, enhance their student experience through student group participation and fun events and activities!

AberSU is not… A BAR!!

Summer isn’t ‘quiet time’ for Students’ Unions…what are you going to be busy working on over the Summer?

We’re currently putting together new and improved online Committee Training modules ready for the incoming committee members, and generally preparing and planning everything ready for the new academic year (including starting to organise some of our prolific events!)
