Introducing your new Wellbeing Officer

Holla!
My name is Lydia and I am the SU’s Wellbeing Officer, meaning that it is my job to make sure Aber is a safe place where students are able to be as happy and healthy as possible. The reason I ran for this position is because I am very passionate about self-care, so I would love to help as many students as I can to start or progress along their own journey of self-love. Also, I’m obsessed with the sea, swimming and surfing, therefore I’m a bit of an eco-warrior. So, over the next year I plan to push the University to become even more environmentally friendly.
I studied Creative Writing while at University and there is nothing I love more than lying on the beach and bingeing a good book (weather permitting). But I’m more of a poet myself and it’s no secret that I can be rather emotional and soppy, so please never be afraid to express yourself to me.
I think Aberystwyth is the most wonderful place, filled with the most amazing people and I’m so happy to be spending another year here!

What would be your top 3 tips for any new students starting at Aberystwyth in September?

1) Go to as many different socials you can
2) Try a sport/activity that you’ve never done before
3) Walk up Consti and realise what a beautiful place Aber is

What are some causes you care about?

Animal welfare, veganism and climate change.

If you could change one thing at Aberystwyth University, what would it be?

I would make the seagulls more friendly!

Choose three words that best describe you.

Loving, healthy and happy

What is your favourite meal?

My mum’s vegan Spaghetti Bolognese!

Do you have any hobbies or interests?

I love yoga, reading, hiking, wild swimming, surfing and anything that involves animals

What is your favourite Aberystwyth hangout?

Name a favourite place you have visited and why.

Mt Tryfan in Snowdonia. I have been there when it was so cold that the mountain was covered in snow and my hair froze, and I have been there in scorching heat and swam in the lake at the bottom. It’s one of my favourites because it is breathtakingly beautiful no matter what the weather, and both times I have been there with my dad who is one of my favourite people!

If you were a superhero, what powers would you have?

I would be able to control the elements and communicate with animals.
