Name: Sabina (Union President)

Short introduction..

Hiya, I’m Sabina. I studied Drama and Creative Writing here at Aber. I ran for SU President as I’ve been involved in SU activities since the end of my first year. I’ve been on committee for Bee Conservation for the past two years as social sec, as well as being a society rep on Senedd. My main focus for the year is to ensure students feel comfortable as we (hopefully) return to normal after a strange two years.

Tell us an interesting or random fact about yourself...

I can speak fluent Irish and I attended an all-Irish boarding school for five years.

Choose three words that best describe you.

Outgoing, good sense of humour and energetic.

It’s your last meal on earth…what’s on the menu? & which 3 celebrity would you invite for food?

I would have my mum's three course Christmas dinner, and I would probably invite David Attenborough, Harry Styles and Rihanna

What are your hobbies or interests?

I’ve currently started paddleboarding which I’ve become obsessed with, but I also love reading and listening to music.

Why did you choose to stand for this role?

I’m a confident person, and public speaking is also something I have no problem with, plus I have absolutely no problem embarrassing myself on social media for the sake of the SU! I'm am an honest person, and I am easily able to voice my opinions and stand up for what's important and provide a singular voice for all students.

What are you most looking forward to this year?

I’m looking forward to getting to see new faces on campus, making sure all students feel represented and just getting back to some sort of normality.

What are some of the causes you care about?

I’m hugely interested in mental health, which is why I’m hoping to improving and bettering some of the current mental health policies. I’m also a huge believer in accessibility and equality for everyone, so I want to work with minority and liberation groups to improve on that.

What is your favourite Aberystwyth hangout?

I love hanging out at the beach, especially on a warm evening with my friends. I also love walking up Pen Dinas (definitely worth it for a sunrise walk).

Do you have any out there traditions or strange superstitions?

I have lots of strange superstitions, a few include: I have to blow my nose before I go to bed. I always sleep with the windows open even if it’s cold, and every hangover can only be cured by an ice cold Pepsi.

What one thing do you think everyone should do/try at least once in their lifetime?

In Aber, I would probably say get up for a sunrise swim; it’s the best way to start a summer.

You are on your way to work on a Monday morning…what song comes on as your soundtrack?

I have loads of feel good songs, all from different genres, but one of the main songs that gets me going is What You Know by Two Door Cinema Club.

Name a favourite place you have visited and why.

I went on a pilgrimage to Lourdes as a volunteer with sick and elderly people, and it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
