Name & Role

Esperanza, Academic Affairs Officer.

Short introduction…

Hi! My name is Esperanza, but everyone calls me Espe. I studied English Literature in Aber and I am currently finishing a Masters in Literary Studies. I am here for you for anything academic related, so don’t be afraid to come say hi!

Tell us an interesting or random fact about yourself...

I was born and raised in a city called Temuco, in Chile.

Choose three words that best describe you.

Cheery, Friendly, Optimistic.

It’s your last meal on earth…what’s on the menu? & which 3 celebrity would you invite for food?

Though my favorite food is sushi, I gotta choose Chilean food for my last meal on earth. As a starter sopaipillas, as the main pastel de choclo and for dessert mote con huesillo. I would invite Chayanne, Lin- Manuel Miranda and Elijah Wood.

What are your hobbies or interests?

I love reading, drawing, watching movies and walking around Aber.

Why did you choose to stand for this role?

I want to make academics fun and accessible for everyone. I love Aber and I want everyone to have as good of an experience as I did.

What are you most looking forward to this year?

Getting to know students and running events and campaigns. I am really looking forward to this year in general, I am so excited for all the amazing stuff we got planned.

What are some of the causes you care about?

I firmly believe education should be accessible to everyone.

What is your favourite Aberystwyth hangout?

The castle ruins, the view is beautiful.

If you could be an animal what would you be and why?

Probably a capybara, they get along with almost all animals and are generally just very chill and friendly.

Do you have any out there traditions or strange superstitions?

Every year during New Year’s I eat 12 grapes. It’s supposed to bring you good luck for all 12 months of the year.

What’s your unpopular opinion?

If something makes you happy, then it shouldn’t be considered a guilty pleasure. Watch that movie, read that book, listen to that song, don’t let people shame you for enjoying what you like.

What one thing do you think everyone should do/try at least once in their lifetime?

Watching a play live. There is something magical about seeing a performance in person. Bonus points if it’s a Shakesperean comedy.

You are on your way to work on a Monday morning…what song comes on as your soundtrack?

Manic Monday by The Bangles.

Name a favourite place you have visited and why.

Verona, Italy. I love Shakespeare and it was amazing going to all the iconic landmarks, like Juliet’s house. I also went to the Verona Arena, which is a Roman amphitheatre, and watched Georges Bizet’s Carmen. Overall, a wonderful experience.
