We’re absolutely thrilled to share that Francesco “Fran” Lanzi, Chair of Undeb Aberystwyth Students’ Union, has won the Volunteer of the Year (25 and Under) category at the Welsh Charity Awards 2025.

The Welsh Charity Awards celebrate individuals and organisations who make an outstanding difference to communities across Wales. This year’s ceremony took place on Wednesday 16th October at the Principality Stadium, Cardiff.

Fran’s award recognises his exceptional dedication to student life, sport, and volunteering. Since joining Undeb Aberystwyth, he has devoted thousands of hours to supporting events, initiatives, and community projects that enhance the student experience.

As a St John’s Ambulance First Aider and A-Teamer, Fran has played an essential role in ensuring the success and safety of university and community sporting events. In his role as Chair of Undeb Aberystwyth, he has been a passionate advocate for student engagement, encouraging others to get involved in volunteering through initiatives such as the Aber Award.

Beyond campus, Fran’s passion for sport continues through his work as a volunteer sports journalist and commentator, providing live coverage for Cymru Sport and helping to raise the profile of student and women’s sport across Wales.

His recent shortlisting for the BUCS Chris Potter Student Volunteer of the Year Award highlights Fran’s outstanding contribution to student sport, volunteering, and community life, recognising the positive impact he’s made at Undeb Aberystwyth and beyond.

We’re incredibly proud of everything Fran has achieved and delighted to see his hard work recognised with this prestigious national award. Congratulations, Fran
