Last term your Faculty Officers attended their first Faculty Academic Affairs Committees (FAAC). As Faculty Officers, their role is to ensure there is student representation within these meetings, and by talking to academic reps and students within their faculty they can raise feedback about teaching, learning, and/or student experience with senior staff. It’s these conversations between staff and students that help to highlight problems, make changes, and improve your university experience. Diolch to our Faculty Officer for this work in giving students a voice!

Faculty of Earth and Life Sciences (UG): Aleksandra Spasova
The Faculty Academic Affairs Committee discussed future changes in the schemes within the department, and how this will affect the staff and the students. They also discussed briefly the way of assessing the students for this and the upcoming academic year. The meeting finished with revising the points that we are going to go through in February, and quick chat about the students' reviews from the past months. Ellen raised a very good point for PG students, which will be revised by the senior members of the committee to find a solution. As for the UG students’ feedback, I hadn't had the chance to meet with the Academic Reps yet, and I could not raise any problems. However, next week the Academic Reps should come to a meeting with me, to discuss any issues as well as their feedback.

Faculty of Earth and Life Sciences (PG): Ellen Hjort
The Faculty Academic Affairs Committee was held today. Mostly, the meeting concerned the annual review of schemes, but also the faculty guidelines for assessments in lieu of exams for this semester. I raised an issue of how some PhD students who start at other times of the year than September, or who are transitioning from the masters to the PhD of a 1+3 scheme, at times fall through the cracks and do not receive invitations and information about induction and registration at the start of the year. This feedback will now be brought to the attention of the graduate school and hopefully resolved going forward. Faculty of Business and Physical Sciences (UG): Martina McIvor & Zoe Hayne
At the FAAC meeting, the blended learning strategy was discussed; with praise being given to staff and students for adapting to the ever-changing climate. MEQ's results we touched upon, and Examiner reports were also discussed. Issues such as exam resits, and accessibility support were also mentioned.
