The Biggest Contribution (RAG) is awarded to a club whose members have freely given a significant amount of their time to a good cause throughout the year, or a club that has significantly contributed towards RAG throughout the year.

This year’s winner was Women’s Hockey.

This clubs dedication and support for both local and national charities has been extremely visible across the last academic year. They have fundraised, celebrated and supported multiple causes, helping many organisations around Wales and the UK.

Firstly, they raised over £400 for Trussell Trust. Trussell Trust support a nationwide network of food banks and together provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty, and campaign for change to end the need for food banks in the UK. They also purchased essential items for St-Ann’s Church Food Bank for the vulnerable during the Covid-19 pandemic.

They have also raised over £100 for West Wales Poundies, an organisation dedicated to saving the lives of dogs in council pounds.

During the last year, they’ve also partnered with Mind Aberystwyth, by providing mental health services and support to their members, and also celebrated and raised awareness during Pride month to support the LGBTQ+ student community and beyond by sharing individual stories and experiences.

Overall, the dedication of the group to get involved with so many charities in need over the last year has been inspirational, and we at the SU are extremely proud of the work they have done to help.
