After almost 14 years Gav is leaving the SU to take up a new and exciting role as Head of Youth at Aberystwyth Town Football Club.
Gavin Allen, started his employment at AberSU in 2006 as Athletic Union Administrator after a prosperous football career. In 2016 Gav successfully gained the role of Opportunities Manager and has seen Sports and Societies activity in Aber go from strength to strength to 42% of students being a Team Aber member.
When asked about proud moments Gav said: “It’s brilliant seeing how our events have developed. For example, at the start Superteams only had 8 men’s and 8 women’s teams and now they each have 28 and sell out instantly”
Gav will be sorely missed by staff colleagues and students alike. Many will remember him and the work he has done to develop key events including Aber7s and anyone who has ever been in need of a guiding or stern word will remember him fondly for his infamous ‘Gav chats’.
Whilst Gav will be difficult to replace AberSU will start recruitment for the Opportunities Manager role over the next month. When asked if he had any advice for his successor Gav said that they should “embrace Students’ Union life and the culture of it. It’s been a pleasure to work with so many amazing Officers and students and see them develop and earn their respect and I wish them and the Union all the best for the future”
