Why volunteer at AberSU?

Aber SU provides a wide range of volunteering opportunities throughout the year that you can get involved in.

But why? I hear you ask. Well here’s a quick list of my top 5 reasons for volunteering at Aberystwyth!

  1. To give something back! - AberSU has the A Team. The A Team helps everyone throughout the year in a variety of ways but most noticeably, throughout Fresher’s Week. So if you get drunk and can’t move in fresher’s week (please don’t, this is not recommended) the A Team are there to help. If you get lost on campus in that first fateful week and you see a red top of an A Teamer then they’ll help you find your way. The best way to pay them back is obviously with smiles and happiness, but also to join the A Team yourselves. That way, you give a little something back into helping those bleary eyed students find their feet in Fresher’s!
  2. It looks great on your CV – What better way to get a job when you graduate than do something that helps out other people? I mean why wouldn’t you?! Once on your CV, volunteer hours make you hugely more employable and people will just snap you up for those graduate jobs! (Job not guaranteed, sorry)
  3. To make the community even better! – Our small community here in Aber relies on good natured folks like yourselves to get involved and stuck into the magic behind the scenes. Whether that’s helping litter pick on the beaches or volunteering your time with St Johns Links you make our little community so much brighter!
  4. To feel good! – What better way to feel good than to volunteer your time and make someone smile just by helping them? I mean, does it need any more explanation than that?
  5. You can help make a club or society thrive! – As a committee member here at Aberystwyth Students’ Union, you’re volunteering your time to make something great. So if you notice that your club or society was running really well then that’s because some amazing people are volunteering to help get it there! (You can even nominate these people for a ‘You’re Great Award’ if they’re super amazing at what they do!)

And there is my top 5. Obviously there are so many more, but why not find out why else to volunteer by giving it a go. Have a laugh with some mates and sign up today! I promise, it’ll make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside and who doesn’t love that feeling?!
