GIAG - Llandre
- Overview -
The paths around Llandre, also known by its ancient name of Llanfihangel Genau'r Glyn, are familiar to the poets of Wales. In the 12th century, they were well trod by Dafydd ap Gwilym, and the poets of the local courts. Following in their footsteps, we'll tread old paths, as well as enjoying a portion of the coast, particularly Sarn Gynfelyn.

- Details -
Starting in the neighbouring town of Borth, we'll head into the vale- where we'll reach the poetry path, in a churchyard with a yew which has stood for thousands of years, and a holy well. Through the lychgate, in a space meant to connect you to the landscape, there are 16 poems from local poets. If folks are interested, we can take a quick stop to check out the church of St Michael, for which the old town was named. We'll also pass the spot where Castell Gwallter once stood, though there is little save raised earth to speak of the old motte and Bailey.
The route then heads down to the coast- to Sarn Gynfelyn- one of the shingle spits in Ceredigion which mimic causeways, and are associated with the Cante'r Gwaelod. Cante'r Gwaelod is a welsh deluge, or flood myth, a form of story known in many old cultures, and is often compared to the story of Atlantis. We'll then walk along the coast path, directly back into Aberystwyth.
We will take the train to Borth, The walk will be 11.3km/7mi, and largely flat, with only 325m of elevation gain across the distance. There are public toilets at the start, just outside the station.
