AberHike lets you experience the natural beauty of Wales and beyond, all whilst meeting new people and getting some exercise in. Visit facebook.com/aberhike/ to find out more and keep up with us.
Who are we?
Aberystwyth University Hiking Club organises a hike every weekend, usually on Sundays. Our hikes are a great way to explore the natural landscapes of Wales on foot - both famous and completely remote - whilst getting fit, meeting new people and learning about nature and landscapes. They're fantastic days out and loads of fun, whatever the weather! We also aim to keep things varied and exciting, with different locations, difficulties, transport methods, group sizes and more.
We also do a couple of weekends away and holidays every year, to spend a few days hiking in some of our favourite locations in the UK and beyond. We run weekly socials, usually on thursday nights, for fun, relaxed and varied experiences. So far this year we've visited pubs, cafés and restaurants, had picnics, short walks and bonfires, and held quizzes, pub crawls and online games nights. In addition, we aim to facilitate the development of navigation skills, mountain leadership and hiking ability in our members.
If you love the outdoors, want to stay healthy, and meet new people, we're for you. AberHike is among the most active outdoor sports clubs in Aberystwyth, and one of the largest clubs/societies overall, with weekly trips to the mountains, moorlands and more, as well as (in normal times) longer residential tours throughout the year. We welcome all abilities and fitness levels, from experienced hikers to people who have never set foot in the mountains, and our walks are clearly graded for difficulty, so you won't find yourself out of your depth. All our leaders have Mountain Leader Training and hold Emergency First Aid qualifications, so you may enjoy yourselves without having to worry. We attract members of all ages and nationalities. AberHike is particularly popular among International Exchange students as hiking is a great way to get out of Aberystwyth and see the spectacular and unique countryside of Wales and the UK.
