Society Person of the Year

This is awarded to the individual who has excelled in their chosen field / interest and has enhanced the reputation of Aberystwyth. He or she has represented their society on a regional / national level or has excelled within the university / union structure.


Societies Personality of the Year

Awarded to an individual who is highly valued within their society, but also shows a good sense of personal flair, humour and enthusiasm in all aspects of their society.


Society Administrator of the Year

Awarded to someone who has been dedicated towards the running and administration of a particular society. He or she is the unsung hero who sits at the desk inputting emails or collecting money.


Society of the Year

The society of the year is the most coveted and sought-after award within AberSoc. This is awarded to the most successful, committed and active society of the academic year.


Most Improved Society of the Year

The criteria for this award are improved success, spirit and organisation of a society. They should also demonstrate a dedication to carrying on this progression for future years.


The Champions Award

Awarded to the society that has done particularly well at a competitive level. This team has represented the university well at national level furthering the reputation of Aberystwyth University.


Biggest Contribution Charity Society

This is awarded to a charity affiliated society whose members have freely given a significant amount of their time to their cause throughout the year // a society that has raised a significant amount for their charity or cause.


Welsh Language Award

The Society has exceeded the boundaries of the Bilingualism Policy and has included bilingualism print on official society clothing. In addition, all of their correspondence has been bilingual, and the society committee also includes a Welsh Language Officer/ Translation Officer, and the society upholds the bilingual policy at their events.


Best New Society

Awarded to a society that has started, or has been restarted, in the last academic year. They have worked hard to make an impact on the Student Body and SU life.


Biggest Contribution Non-Charity Society

This is awarded to a society whose members have freely given a significant amount of their time to a good cause throughout the year, has spent a significant amount of time helping the student or local community or raised a large amount for charity.


Academic/Course based Society of the Year

Awarded to an Academic Society who has made an outstanding contribution to their department and to the Union, University and Wider Community.


University Colours: Societies (25)

Awarded to individual students who have shown continued outstanding dedication or made an exceptional contribution to their society.


Special Mentions

This award may be given at the discretion of the panel to recognise the outstanding work of a member of the University community who has contributed to a students’ experience, but does not fit into one of the other categories.
