It's safe to say that this year has been quite a rollercoaster!
A huge part of my year has revolved around student safety at night as well as alcohol and drug awareness. The campaign I’m most proud of is our anti-spiking campaign. When the spiking epidemic started I knew it was something that we needed to act on immediately. We put on night stalls in town and raised awareness to the issues as well as giving out anti-spiking kits to our students. During alcohol awareness week I worked closely with cocktail society to put on two alcohol safe events. We put on a cocktail and mocktail making event as well as a mixer with games. A huge thank you to Cocktail Society and DDAS for their help with these events.
Elizabeth and I travelled to Cardiff over the Easter break to attend NUS Wales Conference 2022. In the evening the NUS Wales Awards were held and we are delighted to have won the NUS Wales Campaign of the Year 2022 with our anti-spiking campaign.The NUS Wales conference was one of the highlights of my year. We got to spend time with other Sabbs and also learned a lot about the different issues faced in different unions. It was nice to be able to attend an event in person after a year of virtual communication with the other welsh student unions.
I was also delighted to be able to help with a lot of our Opps events this year, including Superteams, Varsity and 7s. Elizabeth and I even got to host the Superteams aftermath, thanks to Rach for getting covid.
To the future officer team, I want to say a huge well done on being successfully voted in. This job has provided me with so much experience and opportunity, I hope it does the same for you. I’m excited to see what you guys get up to over the next and to be cheering from the sidelines and I have full faith that you guys will achieve everything you set out to do. I’m particularly glad to be passing on the torch to Ash who I’m sure will do an amazing job as your next president.
I would like to extend a massive thank you to everyone who has made this year so special for me. It has been full of highs and lows but I’m lucky to have gotten through it with this amazing officer team by my side. To Barwise and Els, keep smashing it again next year.
