UCU Strike

In our Big Meeting (AGM), students passed policy to support the UCU strikes. We will continue to support students' academic interests and we send our support and stand in solidarity with our University staff who are taking strike action.

Why are UCU striking?

The University and College Union UCU has called for a second round of industrial action by a combined vote of all members related to pay and working conditions and pensions, across the UK, 150 Universities across the UK will be affected including Aberystywth University.

This action includes strikes (as a result of no resolution being met following negotiations from the last strikes)on these dates:

  • Wednesday 1 February
  • Thursday 9 February
  • Friday 10 February
  • Tuesday 14 February
  • Wednesday 15 February
  • Thursday 16 February
  • Tuesday 21 February
  • Wednesday 22 February
  • Thursday 23 February
  • Monday 27 February
  • Tuesday 28 February
  • Wednesday 1 March
  • Thursday 2 March
  • Thursday 16 March
  • Friday 17 March
  • Monday 20 March
  • Tuesday 21 March
  • Wednesday 22 March 2023.

These strikes specifically relate to calls from UCU to:

  • Increase pay by at least inflation +2 or 12% whichever is the higher value
  • Close the gender, ethnicity and disability pay gaps
  • Revoke the pay cuts on members of the USS pension scheme and restore benefits to 2021 levels
