AberSU is proud to present the second award evening of AberSU Celebrates 2021:

The AberSU Celebrates Staff and Students Awards 2021.

These awards support best practice by highlighting teaching excellence and recognising the contributions of staff and students to the student experience.

We would like to congratulate everyone that was nominated, as well as those winning the categories this evening.

 

ACADEMIC REPRESENTATIVE OF THE YEAR

The winner of this award is…

Jake Christie, TFTS!

for being consistently proactive in not only collecting and relaying feedback to students, but also working with the department to develop and improve the course.

DEPARTMENT OF THE YEAR

The winner of Department of the Year is…

Department of English and Creative Writing!

for going above and beyond to ensure students are happy and healthy outside the classroom.

Congratulations!

 

LECTURER OF THE YEAR

The winner of Lecturer of the Year is….

Panna Karlinger (Mathematics and School of Education)!

for combining quality education with enjoyment, by providing helpful resources, clear understanding of topics and engaging teaching which promotes class positivity and participation.

OPEN CATEGORY AWARD

Beth Wright from Geography and Earth Sciences

Beth has been awarded the Community Outreach Champion for her work creating mask straps during the first lockdown which help to reduce the discomfort of wearing masks for long periods of time. She has also supported the student and university community through her work as the Students’ Union Environmental and Sustainability Officer. Finally, over the past year, she has also helped to raise over £1,100 for Mind and Papyrus!

Joel Adams from Computer Science

Joel has been awarded the Academic Community Champion as the creator and admin of the Computer Science Community Discord Server. This platform was set-up at the start of the first lockdown in response to everything moving online and to maintain communications across the department. Since then, he has actively maintained and moderated the platform, and does this on top of his University studies.

 

PERSONAL TUTOR OF THE YEAR

The winner if this award is…

Susan Chapman (School of Education) for taking the time to understand individual issues, as well as caring about both the academic achievements and wellbeing of students.

POSTGRADUATE TEACHER OF THE YEAR

The Winner is…

Yuyao Wang (Aberystwyth Business School) for her willingness to actively help students both with academic queries and support outside of the classroom.

STUDENT MENTOR OF THE YEAR

The winner of this award is….

Cat Oliver (IBERS) for offering valuable guidance, information, and motivation, as well as being available for students if they need help, or even just a chat.

STUDENT STAFF MEMBER OF THE YEAR

Congratulations to the winner of this award...

Tom Mumford (Computer Science)

for taking on several student staff roles and putting in 100% effort.

 

STUDENT VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

Congratulations to the winner of this award…

Adam Burlingham (Law and Criminology)

for his dedicated involvement to organise events and activities for the Law Society, as well as helping students to voice concerns as part of his role as the FASS Faculty officer.

 

SUPERVISOR OF THE YEAR

The winner of this award is…

Simon Payne (Psychology) for supporting and motivating a student to take ownership of their project by providing guidance and further opportunities to develop their confidence.

SUPPORT/SERVICE STAFF MEMBER OF THE YEAR

The winner of this award is…

Lorraine Spencer (Student Support & Careers Services) for her genuine care and kindness they show in helping students to sort their future plans and gain relevant work experience.
