We are delighted to announce that the bar at Brynamlwg is opening from 17/11/14 (12:00-14:00 + 17:30-23:30 Mon-Sat) and will be operated by staff from AberSU. The Brynamlwg sports and social club will continue to be run by a committee of its members who will be responsible for the future direction of the club.

The Students’ Union is very happy to announce that it is taking over the running of the bar at Brynamlwg Tafarn, on the Penglais Campus. Brynamlwg is currently home to Aberystwyth University Staff & Social Club located in a converted stone farmhouse on the edge of the University’s Penglais campus.

The previous steward of Brynamlwg has recently retired and is not being replaced, leaving the club with no obvious way of remaining open. The Students’ Union is very happy to be able to step in and assist the club in re-opening. Brynamlwg will remain the home of the club in addition to being open to students and the general public.

The location of Brynamlwg between the main campus and Llanbadarn makes it an ideal place for further engagement with our students. There are several meeting rooms available which offer a great space for clubs and societies to book or for other uses.

This development further outlines our commitment to providing opportunities and space for our students. We look forward to working with the University in developing and expanding our services across all campuses.

Jacob Ellis, Students’ Union President adds, ‘This is great news for the students. We recognise the great potential this building could have for the student experience from sports and societies involvement to providing fringe outlets from the Students’ Union.’

John Glasby, Chief Executive Officer at the Students’ Union said, ‘I am delighted that the strength of our commercial operations has been recognised in this way, running the bar will enable us to generate even more opportunities for our student members as well as ensuring the club reopens for current and retired University staff.’

The premises is currently undergoing a deep clean and bar refurbishment:- a re-opening date will be announced very shortly.
