The Debating Union has been turning timid freshers into fierce public speakers since 1872. We meet weekly and travel to tournaments across Britain and the rest of the world, no experience necessary.
We are the Aberystwyth University Debating Society, turning timid freshers into fierce public speakers since 1872! We have weekly trainings on Thursday evenings, weekly nights out and other socials. We attend competitions across the UK and abroad, and most importantly we are a welcoming friendly group of people of various interests and backgrounds looking to make sure your Aber experience will be filled with fun, friends and many many memories.
We meet every Thursday at 7pm in C4 in the Hugh Owen Building, where we do trainings through games, warm ups and finally a main debate each week. We debate in the British parliamentary style and we are beginner friendly; no experience is required.
On top of this the Debating Union is also a great opportunity to network, we do many competitions with other debating unions all other the country and even sometimes in wider Europe or the world. But don't worry if you don't want to leave lovely Aberystwyth, we also hosts many events with speakers at the university, in the past we have invited assembly members and diplomats to come debate, joining the debating union is a definite way to meet people from the wider world.
