Beach Clean

This year Aberystwyth Students Union launched a brand new Aber Challenge event, which was held over three days in November. From the 8th until the 10th of November, eighteen teams of five competed in different challenges. The disciplines included a quiz, team building ‘tower construction’, a scavenger hunt, dodgeball, beer pong, chess, poker, ‘scategories’, Mario Kart Races and a beach clean on the Aberystwyth coastline.

Participants had to brain storm, co-operate and do their best through this exciting three day tournament. After each day, the tables shifted and it was all still to play for right until the last event. In the end, it was Cunning Stunts who came out on top, followed by Dixie Normus and ESN Aberystwyth.

The success of the event was celebrated with an after party, held in the Aberystwyth Students Union. Each team was awarded free pizza, and the event concluded with one last quiz.

Feedback from the competitors after the event has been overwhelmingly positive, with many stating their weekend was enjoyable, exciting and worthwhile. Taking into consideration this was the first year the event has taken place, the organisers are proud to say that it became a great success. Next year’s event is sure to be bigger, better and even more diverse!

During the event the Opportunities Office received help from over thirty volunteers, whose involvement was crucial to the events success. Clubs and societies of Aberystwyth student body assisted in organisation, running and refereeing the events. Special thanks are sent to those from Aberystwyth Community of Gamers (ACOG), Aberystwyth Dodgeball Club, Aberystwyth Tickled Pink Society and Uni Boob Team, Aberystwyth Beer Pong Society, Aberystwyth Chess Society, Aberystwyth Photography Society and volunteers from the A–Team.
