Why do you do sport?

Sports has always been a big part of my life; it's a fun way of staying fit and keeping healthy.
Being a part of a sports club is a great way to make friends and extend your social circle.

What sport do you do?

I’ve been playing rugby for nearly 13 years. I started playing in the boys under 7’s team moving over to girls rugby at the age of 12. Alongside rugby, I also played cricket and netball until the age of 14.

What challenges have you faced, being a girl, within sport?

Being a girl in rugby has been hard. At age 12 when I had to leave the boys team I struggled to find a girls team that played competitive contact rugby. There was very little interest in setting up a team locally, so my parents supported my interest in continuing to play rugby by driving me an hour each way to training and home games and even further afield for away games.

What have you achieved in sports? Gained qualification?

As a rugby player I have played for Telford, Worcester and North Midlands under 18’s winning the league with Worcester and the County Cup twice with North Midlands.  Whilst playing for Worcester I attended rugby tours in Ireland and Latvia. This past summer I gained my level 2 coaching qualification and my level 1 refereeing certificate.

I am now lucky enough to be playing for Aberystwyth 1st XV.

What do you have to say to girls in Aber who want to try sport, but are too scared?

To any girls wanting to play a sport I simply say "GO FOR IT". No-one is there to judge you, in fact the opposite; us girls support each other and have admiration for any one trying something new.
