#SVW2018 #AberVolunteer
The Students’ Union has 10 Institute Representatives (volunteer roles). These are students that have been elected by fellow students from within their Institute to feedback on their Academic views to the Institute, University and Students’ Union.
Eleanor Furness is the current Institute Rep for IBERS.
Why I volunteer: I enjoy responsibility and helping others and I wanted to be the voice of my peers, especially for those who aren’t able to express their opinions. I also wanted to improve my professional skills, gain confidence and experience.
What I do: I represent fellow student’s academic issues and interests. I go to SSCC meetings to raise feedback and then help find solutions. I attend the learning and teaching forums, which is great because I get to be a part of the staff discussions and see what happens behind the scenes. I also support the academic reps in my institute with their roles and bring all the feedback together.
Benefits of volunteering: As an Institute rep, you're given more opportunities and lots of chances to be involved in your education. You represent your peers, help make changes to your course, you learn new skills, gain in confidence and it's brilliant for your CV. It's helped me make new contacts and get new job roles too! It's great to be the person that others can rely on and bring changes. I'm so happy I decided to go for it!
Thank you to Ellie and our other Institute Reps for all of your efforts this year! If you would like to find out who our current Institute Reps are, then go to https://www.abersu.co.uk/shapeaber/studentrepresentatives/institutereps/
