Tickled Pink are a volunteering society that raise money for two breast cancer charities; Breast Cancer Care and CoppaFeel!. You may often see them taking over the town with glitter whilst wearing giant boob costumes, or selling you cakes at a bake sale in the Union; just to name a few. Tickled Pink aims to not only raise as much money as possible for their two charities, but to also raise awareness about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer and the importance of regularly checking your breasts.

As well as being a self-led society, Tickled Pink are also part of a UK wide campaign with CoppaFeel! called Uni Boob Team (UBT). There are around 70 UBT’s across the UK, all working to spread CoppaFeel!’s important message about the signs of symptoms of breast cancer to the student population. Whilst all UBT’s are working together to educate the nations and raise as much money as possible, there is also a small element of competition amongst the teams on which one can a) come up with the best fundraising ideas and b) raise the most money. Over the last two years, Tickled Pink has proven to be one of the best Uni Boob Teams in the UK, by raising over £10,000 in the last couple of years alone, building up a huge profile for CoppaFeel! in Aberystwyth and coming up with amazing fundraising ideas such as the infamous Glitter Party at Why Not Bar and Lounge.

As a result of Tickled Pink’s hard work for CoppaFeel!, they have been rewarded by the charity on two different occasions. Back in February 2016, CoppaFeel! hosted a ‘Celebrity Boob Ball’ event at the Copperbox Arena in London’s Olympic Park. (Boob ball is like dodgeball, except the balls look like boobs). The President at the time (and your current Welfare Officer, Naomi) was asked to go along and compete in the game amongst the stars. She found herself on a team with Radio 1’s Matt Edmunson, Towie’s Mario Falcone and Dan Edgar as well as Ashley James and Tahnee Seagrave. Other teams included comedian Russell Howard, Tom Fletcher from Mcfly, Gaby Roslin and many more. A handful of Tickled Pink members travelled down to London for the day to cheer on their President as she flung boobs around the court; her team even taking home the trophy! The second occasion in which Tickled Pink were rewarded by CoppaFeel! was last month, where members of the 16/17 committee were treated with VIP meet and greet tickets to Russell Howard’s comedy tour in Manchester last month. The girls spent the night away where they were taken for dinner and got to chat with Russell before enjoying the show; a treat that they earned by topping the UK UBT fundraiser leader board in the first semester.

Aberystwyth’s Uni Boob Team are small in comparison to some of the huge cities and their teams, however they’ve succeeded in being one of best teams in the UK. Despite being in a rural town, Tickled Pink have displayed an outstanding contribution to charity and volunteer work that has been rewarded in the most epic ways; a small but mighty team of volunteers that deserve to be celebrated.
