Today is #LoveSU day.

We have asked our students to highlight the impact of students’ unions and the fantastic work students' unions do each and every day.

Here are the reasons why some of you #LoveSU or #LoveAberSU...

Without the SU providing easy and affordable access to sport, I would not have taken up archery whilst here at Aberystwyth. Having never shot a bow in my life, without the SU facilitating niche sports like Archery, I would never have become a BUCS and National Champion.  Through the support and encouragement available to postgraduate students, I was given the confidence to stand for committee positions and have since been able to help and give back to university sport through the positions I have held over the past 2 years.

Alex Newnes, AberArchers

The loss of Stefan created an extra drive within the union to get people talking about mental health. The Stefan’s Socks campaign spreads the word that mental health is nothing to be ashamed of, and encourages people not to say that they’re OK if they’re not. Through fundraising for Mind charity, the campaign also ensures that there are easily accessible mental health care professionals for people to confide in and seek help from. Stefan was, and is, adored by so many members of Aber Snow. This campaign under his name to help others, seems incredibly fitting, considering the care and kindness he extended to so many. I’m sure I speak for much of Aber Snow when I say massive thank you and well done to all those involved in the Stefan’s Socks campaign, particularly Sion and Lauren, long may it continue.

Being part of Tickled Pink has made my uni experience phenomenal, being able to run around campus wearing giant boob costumes whilst promoting checking your boobs has not only been rewarding but such good fun. Without the SU we'd not be able to reach as many people as we do with all the stalls we have there and promotion we can get. The grant from the SU helps us to expand and cement our place within uni which I hope will continue for many years. I've also met the best people and had the best experiences through Tickled Pink, including meeting one of my best friends, our very own SU Welfare Officer

Shabina Aqil, Tickled Pink Society

I've been fortunate enough to have been an academic rep for all of my 3 years in Aberystwyth. The Students' Union has been excellent in both providing the opportunity and training to represent my fellow students and make massive changes to university services through my SSCC"

Jamie Scott, Academic Representative

‘If it wasn't for the SU the re-enactment society would struggle to exist in this area - we need a good, flat piece of land to train on and that's in short supply in Aber! Being part of the SU and my society has given me great memories of spending whole days laughing and have fun with my mates.”

Joe O’Connell, Medieval Re-enactment Society

Curtain Call has performed for over 10 years and without our showcases every few months in the union we wouldn't have had the opportunity to hold a huge 10th Anniversary Gala in the Arts Centre. The SU helped us with accommodation and more and we couldn't be more grateful to showcase our society's talent in the SU
