Congratulations on gaining your place at the University by the Sea: Aberystwyth!
We are delighted to welcome you to the University, the Students' Union and our community.
This is a little guide to tell you all you need to know about the Students' Union (AberSU), what we do and how you can be involved during your time in Aberystwyth.
What is the Union?
Led by students and supported by a team of staff, the Students’ Union wants Aber students to love student life and be ready for anything, and works to ensure that Aber students have an epic student journey, are happy, healthy and empowered, with lasting friendships and promising futures.
What does the union provide for students?
Our new strategy & promises to students
Meet your student officers
Meet Bruce, Emma, Gwion, Jess and Molly; your elected officers this year. They were voted in by Aber students last year and work full time to develop the student experience & represent your interests to the University & beyond.
Click on their names above to read all about them & their priorities.
We’ve teamed up with the University and Aberystwyth Student Events (ASE) to bring you a host of fantastic day and night time events to suit everyone.
We’re also in the process of finalising the calendar of SU activities & events for the whole year therefore keep checking this page for up to date information and dates for your diaries.
As a Students’ Union we ensure that students lead our work and decide what we should take action on and/or believe on a range of issues.
Share an idea: Any student can submit an idea quickly and easily online & student democracy will then decide on whether your idea is a good one that should be taken further.
Union Council: Union Council is AberSU’s key decision making body, with elected representatives setting the direction of our work, creating policies to make lasting change and ensure we are working for students.
Academic Representation: Academic Reps are students elected by fellow students on their course or in their department to feedback the views of those they represent to their Department, the University and Students’ Union.
Elections: Students lead in all aspects of the Students’ Union. We use democratic elections to help you decide who should speak and work for you on a range of issues while you’re a student at Aberystwyth University. All registered students can stand and vote in elections for any position that is relevant to them.
Zones: An opportunity for students to come together to discuss and consider issues, work jointly to identify solutions to take forward, hear from relevant speakers and find out what the relevant full-time officer has been doing.
Policies & campaigns: We work with students, the University and organisations both locally and nationally to create positive change. Our campaigns, research and policy advance the education of Aberystwyth students and ensure their views are heard and taken seriously on campus, in Aberystwyth and across Wales.
TîmAber: Clubs & Societies
TîmAber is AberSU’s family of sports and societies.

Whether you want to get competitive or just have fun … get in the true Team Aber spirit by joining a sports club or society.
